Basic Buttercream Frosting
I use this recipe. A lot.
- 1/4 C Shortening
- 1/4 C. Butter (softened)
- 1/2 tsp. Extract
- 1 1/4 C. Confectioners Sugar
- 1 Tbsp liquid of choice (generally milk)
- In a large bowl, cream butter, shortening, and extract. Gradually add sugar (so as not to have any powdered sugar disasters), then add in milk. If you want an icing, subtract some of the shortening/butter and add additional milk. If you want a REALLY DENSE frosting, toss the milk altogether and/or increase the amounts of non-liquid ingredients.
This recipe frosts about 18-30 cupcakes, depending on how liberal you want to be with it. I always have leftovers.
